The apple story

Apples are just one of the most common harvest in dacha. Most of these apples are as old as 40 years when dachas were just built.
They grow in every yard. Some people have time to cultivate & take care of them, others just left them growing wild. Either way, apples bear an abundant fruit every summer.

There are different sorts and sizes too. They are all good for jam, pies, compote and "kompot" - it's a Russian word and I'm  not sure what exactly it is called in English. It's a warm kinda juice from boiled apples (or fruit berry mix).

Like I said there's too much. Most of them are left on the ground or burried under. People try to share but neighbors have the same. If one tries to share at work, one might receive too as colleagues have dachas too.

What I like most about these apples is that they grow in absolutely natural conditions. Nothing can be in it except the minerals from the soil where it is growing.

  1. how nice to have fruit growing in such abundance, with almost no attention at all. but it is a shame to see it go to waste!! right now, in my garden, i have way too many tomatoes but not everyone grows them so they are easy to give away.

i love applesauce and apple pie, my two apple favorites!!!!!

  4. You make me think of apple butter. My mother cooked, canned, and any other thing you can think of to make the most use of apples. But the best thing she made was apple butter. In fact she made fruit butter of almost any fruit. It is a spicy fruit spread that is delicious on toast or bread.

  5. Wow that's a lot of apples for sure! Haha, it's hard to share when neighbors also have plenty of apples :-) But it's really nice they grow naturally, without pesticides and such. Would love to try kompot. Sounds yummy!

  7. I love the photo of the multi-colored apples! They almost look like Easter eggs! I can imagine it is hard to find enough recipes to cook so many apples but don't they store fairly well? I know here they can last a long time in a fridge or cool place. I love applesauce, apple crisps, cider -- so many wonderful apple things! I hope it isn't too hot there to cook and can or preserve them for the winter!
