Jazz Crossroads is a small hostel with a nice restaurant and cozy cafe.
They don't serve exquisite food but fine enough for the place and it's name. In the evenings they have live band who usually plays jazz music of course. At daytime, they serve business lunch for office workers around the area and the cafe is open all day long.
This is pancake stuffed with ground beef. It's another favorite of mine next to goluptse. It is usually served with sour cream.
Vareniki is some kind of a dumpling but with mashed potato inside, aldo served with sour cream.
Yoshiki. It's some kind of a meatballs with rice and spices. I don't really know how they cook it but it comes with mashed potato and sour cream again.
Cirnik. It's a dessert made of cottage cheese-fried or baked? ...maybe :) I 'm sorry I didn't really asked how it was made but I loved it. It comes with condensed milk or jam. I have chosen condensed milk.
It is not an expensive place to dine in. For two people's lunch, we only paid about $13.
And for an interior like this, it was totally inexpensive I'd say.
That's how the place looks like from across the road. It's an old living place where Salvador Dali's (Spanish painter) wife & family used to live long time ago.
Please excuse the (bad) quality of pictures, they were taken from mobile phone.
All those meals look delicious, and would be lovely with some music in such a pretty restaurant. Interesting that it was once the home of Salvador Dali as well.
ReplyDeleteSalvador Dali didn't really live in this place but his wife and wife's family before they emmigrated, met and married him. But yes, as a husband it might as well be a home for him.
DeleteVareniki looks and sound like the Ukrainian pierogi I'm very familiar with, also served with sour cream. Very tasty!
ReplyDeleteoh, i think i could find a lot to eat in russia! :)
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a fun place to go!
ReplyDeleteOnly 13$? That is fantastic. The food looks really delicious. And what a wonderful location for that restaurant; in a historical building.
ReplyDeleteThat looks SO good!
ReplyDeleteGood eats, everything looks so yummy!!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a good place for a nice lunch - my kind of restaurant.
ReplyDeleteYour vareniki looks similar to pierogis made by the polish. Potato is a favorite filling but I have also had them made with sauerkraut. My brother makes fruit pierogi's for dessert. Delicious. The cottage cheese dessert sounds interesting. I would like to try that.
ReplyDeleteLooks like some great food!
ReplyDeleteIt all looks so delish! :)
ReplyDeleteWow, that looks very nice place! All the dishes look so yummy...I'd love to try the beef stuffed pancake and cottage cheese dessert!
ReplyDeleteHow interesting Dali's family used to live there. Residence is now such a beautiful restaurant.
Everything looks delicious and at a good price too!
ReplyDeleteThe pictures are fine actually and I loved seeing all the yummy food, though I'm reading this early in the morning before breakfast and I'm wishing I were at that cafe right now. That is very inexpensive for lunch in a restaurant with that lovely atmosphere.
ReplyDeleteI loved this post, Mari! I love the insight into local foods, and I would love everything that you've shown, but especially the cirnik.
