Maybe in other parts of the world have already seen signs of spring.
We are still definitely far from thawing. After a cold week of temperature not higher than -20 degrees celcius, we were recently swept with a strong blizzard sweeping snow into the air leaving parks with thick snow looking like a whipped cream or blown up powder.
Kremlovskaya street during the blizzard.
It was later then followed with ice rain that left icicles hanging on leaves.
It was a beautiful weather eventhough it was difficult. Maybe it is changing slowly by now. Maybe, but I 'm just fine even if it stays a bit more.
I have a feeling that I 've learned to like the cold, or maybe I just just haven't had enough of it this year. Also, it maybe that I know that the whole February is still winter so I don't expect it to thaw.
I remember last year how I was begging for warmth and sun in March. I thought I couldn't live longer in that cold but hey I survived it. I remember after my first winter, I almost cried on the first day I felt the warmth of the sun on my head, on my face. I still remember the moment very well. I felt I went to a different world without a sun, without colors but white. I mean you could see it on the sky but you never felt it. I even had a feeling that people were just physically walking, talking, working but it all seemed to me that they weren't totally there. Maybe they were hibernating on the inside and were just mechanically functioning. Everybody was quietly busy doing their things.
This is my 4th winter. First one was exciting and worrying. I was very worried that I'd get frozen like ice outside :) well, I was very naive of cold then. Second was enjoyable. That time I already learned to like it. Third time was full of complains. I think excitement faded. This year, I think, I naturally have accepted it as part of life. One thing I have noticed, I haven't complained (yet maybe) :)
Honestly speaking, if one day I have to leave Russia, I'll miss winter for sure.

Winter certainly has its beauty and I always like to see freshly-fallen snow--your photos are really awesome. But I can't imagine living there with such constant cold. So, why did you move to Russia? Or is that a secret?!!
ReplyDeleteNot really. I'm married to its citizen. I guess I just have gotten used to the cold and learned to live with it.
Deleteglad you have gotten used to it and consider its beauty. :)
ReplyDeleteMari, your winter is much more severe than mine. This winter we didn't experience more than -8C degrees. It was only once.. I hate winters
ReplyDeleteI found your responses to cold winters both beautiful and fascinating. I have lived on both sides of Canada. My home now is in Vancouver, where we are experiencing a rainy day today. On the other side of the country, some have had huge winter snow and ice storms. There is great beauty in every season, as you show with great sensitivity!
ReplyDeletegreat photos, great cold, but as it's all full of charm.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are lovely, Mari. I know what you mean about missing the colors during the winter. That is one thing I notice too. It seems like everything is white, black, or grey with no other colors. I guess that is why when spring comes with all its colors, it is a welcome sight. :)
ReplyDeleteI will take the cold weather over hot any time. But I reserve the right to complain about both when I am tired of them.
ReplyDeleteThat is beautiful - I always love the world after a fresh snowfall.
ReplyDeleteI think the snow looks beautiful. We've had a mild winter here in the southern USA.
ReplyDeleteThe swept snow does look like whipped cream :-) Love the photos of icicles. They are beautiful!
ReplyDeleteCold must have been really harsh if warmth of sun could make you almost cry! It's nice though, that you feel it has become part of your life. I think that means you feel at home :-)
I love winter! Sadly, my part of the world is in a drought, so there hasn't been much snow in our mountains.
ReplyDeleteYour photos are beautiful! I've always lived in the area I live in now and we have winter! Last winter we set records for snowfall and it never seemed to end. I understand you wanting to cry when you felt sunshine again! This winter has been pretty standard for us.
ReplyDeleteI'm glad you've grown to appreciate it.
Your winter sounds and looks about the same as ours. Usually I enjoy winter, but this year we've had so many days that started out at -20C, that I have started to complain just a little - but I got out skiing today.
ReplyDeleteWe have 45 inches of snow in Boston and frigid cold - I can SO relate!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful pictures. I wish we could get some snow here. I miss it.
ReplyDeleteIt takes a while, but then winter kind of grows on you and you learn to love it. I too am wishing for more cold and blue skies as winter has been too mild for the most part although we do now have a metre or so of snow.
ReplyDeleteLovely shots.
Beautiful pictures!!
ReplyDeleteI would be very grumpy if I were living in such a cold place...it has only been -9 in Germany and it hasn't stopped me from complaining.
ReplyDeleteLovely captures for WATW
ReplyDeleteour winter was late this year and it only just started. Might be a very late spring :( Glad you survived the winter :) You will make it this time too.
ReplyDeletebeautiful winter images!! i enjoy the seasons, winter is no exception. but when spring arrives, i will be ready to enjoy that as well!!! it is 43 degrees at the jersey shore today, a real nice warm up!!!!
ReplyDeleteWe don't have it quite as cold as you do I should imagine, but the snow and ice do make for some gorgeous pictures don't they? Yours are lovely!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you like winter.. The photos and scenery do look beautiful! I prefer spring, summer and fall and would like to skip winter.. Have a happy day and weekend ahead!
ReplyDeleteI am glad you are used to it and it is beautiful. But ... Oh that's a long winter season! As a recent newbie to your blog, I wish I knew where you are an ex-pat from! And why you decided to be there at first ! I love thinking I sort-of know somebody in Russia though! Blogging is great that way.
ReplyDeleteThat snow looks so soft and the snow and ice on the trees is magical.
ReplyDeleteIt is very, very beautiful but looks cold! I hope you get spirng in march! But maybe it never comes that early in your part of the world? I wish you a great weekend!
